Why Choose WRAS Approved EPDM Rubber Sheet

✓ WRAS Approved for Potable Water

WRAS (Water Regulations Advisory Scheme) approval guarantees this EPDM rubber sheet meets stringent UK requirements for materials in contact with potable (drinking) water. This certification ensures safety, reliability, and compliance for water system applications including tank linings, pipe seals, water storage, and plumbing gaskets. Essential for construction projects, water treatment facilities, and any application where water quality and safety are paramount.

💧 Exceptional Water & Steam Resistance

EPDM rubber provides outstanding resistance to water, hot water, and steam, maintaining its properties even with continuous exposure. Unlike natural rubber which degrades in water, EPDM remains flexible, durable, and watertight. Ideal for water tanks, pond liners, roofing membranes, plumbing seals, and any application requiring long-term water resistance. The non-porous structure prevents water absorption and swelling.

☀️ Superior Weather & Ozone Resistance

EPDM rubber excels in outdoor applications due to exceptional resistance to UV radiation, ozone, and weathering. Maintains flexibility and performance through extreme temperature fluctuations (-40°C to +120°C), intense sunlight, rain, snow, and atmospheric pollutants. Perfect for roofing membranes, outdoor seals, automotive weather strips, and construction applications. Significantly outperforms natural rubber and nitrile in outdoor environments, with 20-30+ year lifespan.

🧪 Good Chemical Resistance

Resists numerous chemicals including acids, alkalis, ketones, alcohols, and many industrial chemicals. Suitable for chemical storage tank linings, industrial seals, and environments with moderate chemical exposure. Note: EPDM is not suitable for petroleum oils or hydrocarbon fuels (use nitrile rubber for oil resistance). The chemical resistance combined with water resistance makes EPDM ideal for water treatment and chemical processing applications.

🔧 70 Shore A Hardness – Optimal Flexibility

70 Shore A hardness (±5) provides the perfect balance between flexibility and resilience. Flexible enough to conform to irregular surfaces and create effective seals, yet firm enough to resist deformation under load. Easy to cut, shape, and install whilst maintaining structural integrity. The consistent hardness ensures reliable performance across all applications from delicate gaskets to robust roofing membranes.

❄️ Low Temperature Flexibility

Remains flexible even at extremely low temperatures (down to -40°C), unlike many rubber types that become brittle in cold conditions. This makes EPDM ideal for outdoor applications in cold climates, refrigeration seals, and any environment experiencing freezing temperatures. The low-temperature performance ensures year-round reliability without seasonal degradation or cracking.

Professional Applications for WRAS EPDM Rubber Sheet

  • Potable Water Systems – Tank linings, pipe seals, water storage
  • Roofing Membranes – Flat roof seals, flashing, weatherproofing
  • Construction Sealing – Expansion joints, building seals, gaskets
  • Automotive Weather Strips – Door seals, window seals, trunk seals
  • Plumbing Gaskets – Pipe connections, flange seals, valve seats
  • Pond Liners – Garden ponds, water features, aquaculture
  • HVAC Systems – Ductwork seals, insulation backing
  • Water Treatment – Chemical tank linings, filtration seals
  • Marine Applications – Boat seals, deck gaskets, hatch seals
  • Industrial Sealing – Equipment gaskets, protective barriers

Cutting & Installation Guidelines

Cutting EPDM Rubber Sheet

  1. Mark Your Cut Line: Use chalk or marker to mark cutting line on rubber surface
  2. Use Sharp Tools: Heavy-duty utility knife, Stanley knife, or specialist rubber cutting shears
  3. Score and Snap (Thin Sheets): For 1.5-3mm thickness, score deeply and bend to snap cleanly
  4. Multiple Passes (Thick Sheets): For 6mm thickness, make multiple cutting passes rather than forcing through
  5. Straight Edges: Use metal straight edge or T-square for precision straight cuts
  6. Circular Cuts: Create cardboard template first, trace onto rubber, then cut carefully

Bonding & Adhesion

  • Use EPDM-compatible contact adhesive or specialist rubber adhesive for permanent bonding
  • Clean both surfaces thoroughly before bonding to remove dust and contaminants
  • Apply adhesive to both surfaces, allow to become tacky (follow manufacturer instructions)
  • Press surfaces firmly together, roll with heavy roller to eliminate air bubbles
  • Allow full cure time (typically 24-48 hours) before subjecting to water or load
  • For roofing applications, use EPDM-specific roofing adhesive and primer

Thickness Selection Guide

1.5mm: Lightweight gaskets, thin seals, flexible applications, automotive weather strips
3mm: General-purpose gaskets, plumbing seals, moderate protection, pond liners
6mm: Heavy-duty applications, roofing membranes, tank linings, maximum durability

Chemical Resistance Guide

EPDM rubber is RESISTANT to:

  • Water, hot water, steam
  • Acids (dilute sulphuric, hydrochloric, phosphoric)
  • Alkalis (sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide)
  • Ketones (acetone, MEK)
  • Alcohols (methanol, ethanol)
  • Brake fluids (glycol-based)
  • Ozone, UV radiation, weathering

EPDM rubber is NOT SUITABLE for:

  • Petroleum oils and fuels (use nitrile rubber instead)
  • Mineral oils and lubricants (use nitrile rubber instead)
  • Aromatic hydrocarbons (benzene, toluene)
  • Concentrated acids or strong oxidizing agents
