Frequently Asked Questions

How does acoustic rubber flooring reduce noise?

Acoustic rubber flooring works by absorbing impact energy (footsteps, dropped objects) before it can transmit through the floor structure as airborne noise to the room below. It acts as a decoupling layer.

What dB reduction can I expect?

Depending on thickness and density, acoustic rubber underlay reduces impact sound by 20–54dB. Thicker, denser material provides greater attenuation.

Is acoustic flooring suitable under laminate or LVT?

Yes — acoustic rubber underlay is specifically designed as an underlayer beneath laminate, LVT, engineered wood and ceramic tiles to meet building regulation Part E impact sound requirements.

What thickness do I need to meet Part E?

A minimum of 3mm high-density acoustic rubber underlay is typically required. For upper-floor installations in flats, 5–6mm is recommended to achieve the required impact sound reduction.

Can acoustic flooring be used in commercial buildings?

Yes — acoustic rubber flooring is used in offices, hotels, schools and residential blocks to meet both Part E (impact noise) and Part E (airborne sound) building regulation requirements.
