This Sprayable Contact Bonding Adhesive (500ml) is a high-performance solution for securing rubber membranes to a wide range of surfaces. Perfect for both vertical and horizontal applications, it offers up to 6x faster application and 4x quicker drying times compared to traditional adhesives.
Key Features & Benefits
-
Size & Coverage: 500ml canister covers up to 3m². Applied to both surfaces, usage is approx. 0.17L per m².
-
Fast Application: Up to 6x quicker than brush-applied adhesives.
-
Quick Drying: 4x faster drying times for efficient project completion.
-
Extended Working Window: Allows easier handling and adjustments.
-
Zero Waste: Designed for clean, cost-effective installations.
-
Strong Bond: Secure adhesion for both flat decks and vertical up-stands.
Application Instructions
-
Up-Stands: Spray both the up-stand and membrane back from 100–150mm distance. Allow to become touch-dry before fixing.
-
Decking (non-permeable): Spray evenly to both deck and underside of the membrane from 100–150mm distance. Ensure adhesive is touch-dry before rolling the membrane into place. Note: repositioning is not possible once bonded.
-
Tip: Always allow adequate drying time. Applying before touch-dry can trap air bubbles, which will settle as the membrane beds in.

Rubber Contact Bonding Adhesive UK — Application Guide
Surfaces this adhesive bonds
- SBR rubber matting to concrete, screed, timber, and steel
- EPDM rubber sheets to flat roof decks and membranes
- Rubber tiles to concrete floors
- Rubber stair nosings and threshold strips
- Gym flooring rubber to subfloor
- Rubber sheeting to metal, wood, or rigid plastics
Application Instructions
- Surface preparation — Clean both surfaces thoroughly. Remove dust, grease, oil, and loose material. Both surfaces must be dry and at room temperature.
- Apply adhesive — Apply an even coat of adhesive to BOTH surfaces using a brush or roller. Apply 250–350g per m² per surface for porous substrates; less for non-porous.
- Flash off time — Allow 5–15 minutes open time depending on temperature and humidity. The adhesive is ready when it is tacky to touch but does not transfer.
- Bond — Bring the two surfaces together carefully, aligning before contact — this adhesive bonds on contact and repositioning is very difficult. Apply firm pressure across the full surface.
- Cure time — Full bond strength is achieved within 24–48 hours at room temperature.
Coverage Rate
The 500ml tin covers approximately 1–2m² when applied to both surfaces (0.5–1m² effective coverage). Coverage varies with surface porosity — concrete and timber absorb more adhesive than rubber.

Frequently Asked Questions
What adhesive should I use for rubber flooring?
Use a contact adhesive or pressure-sensitive adhesive specifically formulated for rubber flooring. Solvent-based contact adhesives give a stronger permanent bond; water-based versions are lower odour and suitable for enclosed spaces.
How do I apply rubber flooring adhesive?
Apply adhesive to both surfaces (subfloor and rubber backing) using a notched trowel. Allow to become touch-dry (typically 10–20 minutes), then press surfaces together firmly and roll with a flooring roller.
How much adhesive do I need per square metre?
Coverage varies by product but typically 200–350g/m² is required per coat. For a full bond (both surfaces coated), double this figure. Check product data sheet for exact coverage.
Is a primer needed before applying rubber flooring adhesive?
On porous substrates (concrete, screed), a primer coat is recommended to seal the surface and improve adhesion. Non-porous surfaces (existing tiles, metal) may require a specific bonding agent.
How long before rubber flooring can be walked on after adhesive?
Light foot traffic is typically possible after 12–24 hours. Full cure for heavy use takes 48–72 hours depending on temperature and humidity. Avoid heavy loads for at least 48 hours.
