Rubber Mats UK — Heavy Duty Rubber Floor Mats

Updated June 2026 — Rubberco's rubber mats range covers every application — from heavy duty industrial rubber floor mats for factories and warehouses, to anti-slip entrance mats, stable mats and gym flooring. All manufactured from high-quality rubber compounds built for UK commercial and residential environments.

    Types of Rubber Mats

    Anti-Slip Rubber Floor Mats

Safety-first rubber floor mats with textured or studded surfaces for wet and high-traffic areas. Available in a range of sizes, sold by the metre or as pre-cut mats. Suitable for entrance areas, kitchens, workshops and anywhere that floor grip is critical.

    Heavy Duty Rubber Mats

Industrial grade rubber mats for demanding environments. Thick construction handles heavy foot traffic, forklift movements, machinery vibration and chemical spillage. Used in factories, warehouses, vehicle workshops and commercial premises across the UK.

    Anti-Fatigue Rubber Mats

Ergonomic rubber matting for standing workstations. Reduces fatigue and discomfort for workers standing for extended periods. Used in retail counters, factory assembly lines, commercial kitchens and workbenches. Available in standard sizes or cut to length.

    Outdoor Rubber Mats

Weather-resistant rubber mats for outdoor use — terraces, patios, decking, car parks and loading areas. Drainage holes prevent water pooling; UV-stabilised EPDM compounds resist sun damage and colour fading.

    Rubber Mats by Application

    • Garage: Studded rubber mats for vehicle bays and workshop floors — nitrile compound for oil resistance
    • Gym: Heavy duty rubber gym mats for weightlifting and functional training areas
    • Stable: Thick rubber stable mats (17-20mm) for horse stalls and walkways
    • Entrance: Anti-slip entrance mats and dirt trapper mats — sold by the metre
    • Industrial: Anti-fatigue and safety mats for factory, warehouse and engineering environments
    • Kitchen: Food-grade rubber mats and drainage mats for commercial catering
    • Outdoor: EPDM rubber mats with drainage for patios, ramps and external walkways

Frequently Asked Questions — Rubber Mats UK

What are rubber mats made from?

UK rubber mats are made from a range of rubber compounds depending on application. The most common are: SBR (Styrene-Butadiene Rubber) for general purpose and recycled content mats; EPDM for outdoor and UV-resistant mats; Nitrile (NBR) for oil and fuel resistant mats in garages and engineering; Natural Rubber for high-grip and stable matting; Silicone for food-grade and high-temperature applications. Most entry-level rubber mats use recycled SBR crumb rubber pressed into tiles or rolls.

    Are rubber mats waterproof?

Rubber is naturally waterproof — it does not absorb water. Rubber mats repel water from their surface and, when used as a floor covering, prevent water from reaching the subfloor beneath. However, water can pass between tiles or around mat edges. For fully waterproof sealed floors, specify welded rubber sheet installation. For most outdoor and wet area mat applications, drainage profiles with holes or channels are preferred so water can evacuate from beneath the mat surface.

    How heavy are rubber mats?

Rubber is a dense material. A 1m x 1m x 15mm rubber tile weighs approximately 18-22kg. A standard 17mm horse stable mat (1.8m x 0.9m) weighs approximately 30-35kg. When ordering multiple mats for large areas, factor in handling and delivery requirements. Rubberco delivers on pallets for large orders — specify a ground-floor delivery address or forklift access for large-volume orders of heavy mats.

Can rubber mats be used on carpet?

Thin rubber anti-fatigue mats can be used on carpet, but there are limitations. The mat will not stay stable on soft carpet — it will move and fold under load. For carpeted areas, specify a rubber mat with a flat base (not studded) and ensure it sits flush on the carpet surface. Heavy-duty rubber mats for garages and gyms should not be used on carpet — the carpet provides an unstable and compressible base that undermines the mat's load-bearing performance.

    Do rubber mats smell?

New rubber mats, especially recycled SBR content mats, have a distinctive rubber smell when first installed. This is normal and dissipates within 2-4 weeks in a well-ventilated space. To accelerate off-gassing: ventilate the area well, expose mats to fresh air before installation, or wash with warm water and mild detergent before use. EPDM and silicone rubber mats have a much less pronounced odour than recycled SBR products. The smell is not harmful but can be noticeable in enclosed spaces.

What rubber mats are best for horse stables?

For horse stables, specify solid rubber stable mats at 17-20mm thickness. Key requirements: high-density solid rubber construction (not hollow or foam) to withstand horse weight without compressing; textured top surface for grip; interlocking edge profile so mats stay together under horse movement; easy to clean with a pressure washer. Standard stable mat sizes are 1.8m x 0.9m (fits standard UK stable with minimal cutting). See our full stable mats range for all options.

Are rubber mats suitable for outdoor use in the UK?

EPDM rubber mats are specifically designed for outdoor UK conditions — UV and ozone resistant, will not crack or fade in sun and frost, suitable temperature range -50°C to +150°C. Standard SBR rubber mats will deteriorate outdoors within 2-5 years from UV exposure. Always specify EPDM compound for outdoor rubber mat applications. Drainage holes or open profiles are recommended to prevent water pooling.
